These records document Governor William O. Bradley's use of the governor's power and privilege to pardon people convicted of criminal offenses and sentenced to brief jail terms and/or fines. Each petition is accompanied by an envelope which lists the petitioner's name, county and offense, and frequently the date of executive action. The governor's reasons for his decision are often noted on the envelope as well; in many instances these are quite detailed. Attached to some petitions are copies of indictments, other court records, and/or related correspondence.
